The Astrobiology and the Sacred project announces the National Fiction Competition sponsored by the John Templeton Foundation, the Metanexus Institute, and The University of Arizona College of Science.

Why did life emerge on Earth?

Could there be life forms independent of biology?

Is life in the universe sacred?

What is the future of life on Earth?

How would the discovery of extraterrestrial life affect our
self-image?

Is life in the universe inevitable?

Do art or ethics have universal meaning?

What would it mean if we were truly alone?

Awards

FIRST PRIZE: $1,000 plus an invitation, including travel and lodging to read at The
University of Arizona in the Astrobiology and the Sacred Art Symposium in September 2007.

SECOND PRIZE: $500

THIRD PRIZE: $250

Guidelines

  • Submissions must arrive by June 15 , 2007
  • One unpublished work not to exceed 5,000 words
  • Submissions must be typed, double-spaced, and paginated with the submission title on every page, otherwise they will not be read
  • Author's name, address, email address, and phone number should be printed on cover page ONLY
  • Work which has been previously published is not eligible
  • Award notification will be sent by email by August 15, 2007
  • Student entries are encouraged
  • NO email or fax submissions
  • Manuscripts will not be returned
